The 2022 cohort of female executives are leading their teams through this time of churn, having only recently come through the Covid pandemic. However, they are continuing to grow businesses and champion diversity initiatives despite the macroeconomic and geopolitical turmoil. More than 10% of the women on this year’s list work in alternatives, including hedge funds and infrastructure —a reflection of the growth of that industry as well as the fact that it is becoming increasingly diverse. Lawyers also make up more than a tenth of the list, after a wave of promotions that have seen women rise to senior positions.

Ambachtsheer - Blessing

Jane Ambachtsheer has a dual role, spanning both corporate sustainability and sustainable investment at BNP Paribas Asset Management. NEW ENTRY - A Royal College of Music scholar who played the guitar at the Royal Albert Hall in front of Queen Elizabeth II, Kerry Baldwin joined Venture Technologies in 1998 and within eight years had set up IQ Capital, which now has $1bn in assets, to invest in early-stage deep-tech companies. The Cambridge-based firm has invested in the likes of software companies Thought Machine and causaLens and speech recognition company Speechmatics. As managing partner of IQ Capital, Baldwin sets its overall strategy and spearheads fundraising efforts. She also leads the investment committee and is a board member for eight portfolio companies. She has been working to drive relations between the industry and government as a member of the advisory board of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Entrepreneurship. She has supported several government policies designed to make the UK a science and tech superpower. Baldwin was appointed chair of the British Private Equity and Venture Capital Association for 2021-22. Valérie Baudson took over leadership of France- headquartered asset manager Amundi 18 months ago. Since then, she has overseen the completion of the acquisition of Lyxor, which helped to take Amundi’s assets over the €2tn mark for the first time. Amanda Blanc hit the headlines earlier this year because of the misogynistic comments she faced at the Aviva annual general meeting. A member of JPMorgan’s global banking management team, Dorothee Blessing co-heads investment banking in Emea, having been promoted to the role in early 2020. Anne Boden launched challenger bank Starling in 2014. This year, it posted its first profit for the year ended 31 March, thanks to growth in lending and a move to sell its software-as-a-service product Engine as a way to expand globally. NEW ENTRY - The global markets division that Martine Bond oversees in Emea houses the investment research and trading arm of State Street, which includes securities lending and portfolio strategy for asset owners and managers. She is also responsible for GlobalLink, the home of State Street’s electronic trading platforms, which offer connectivity to more than 500 buyside institutions, 200 sellside institutions and 300 custodians across FX, cash and derivatives. Bond, who joined State Street in 2011, manages 800 employees globally across the firm’s core global trading and clearing products. Bond has more than 20 years’ experience in the industry, including running the FX prime brokerage and clearing businesses at Morgan Stanley and its FX Gateway multi-manager investment portal. Before that, she worked at JPMorgan, where she led the FX prime brokerage business. Over the past year, she has been key to the growth of State Street Digital, the firm’s digital assets division, which services assets including cryptocurrencies and stablecoins. Sandra Boss oversees a team of 70 specialists across 10 offices worldwide who are tasked with engaging with company leaders and directors on ESG issues. Ana Botín has been executive chair of Santander since 2014, before which she oversaw its business in the UK. As director general for financial services at the Treasury, Katharine Braddick led the political negotiations on post-Brexit financial services legislation. Before that, she was head of general insurance regulation and personal lines at the Association of British Insurers. Still one of the few female leaders in the hedge fund industry, Leda Braga reflected on her time in the industry in Money Maze’s podcast in April this year. She said that gender equality has improved, although she had not faced barriers herself — she was heavily pregnant when she joined BlueCrest Capital Management in 2001, but she said she had been determined to carry on with her career. At the start of this year, Braga and Affiliated Managers Group jointly acquired the remaining stake in Systematica that BlueCrest Capital Management had held onto following Systematica’s spin-out in 2015. A well-known name in the fintech and venture capital industry, Eileen Burbidge has been special fintech envoy to the Treasury since 2015, a role in which she helps promote the UK as business hub. In her day-to-day role, she heads Passion Capital, which invests in early-stage tech startups. This year, it has taken part in funding rounds for TrueCircle, a data platform for recycling facilities, and hiring intelligence platform Screenloop, among others. NEW ENTRY - Selina Burdell set up a loan servicing and credit management business with her husband Paul in 1998, which acquires and manages European consumer and SME loans. When the financial crisis hit 10 years later, the amount&nbsp;of distressed debt and non-performing loan opportunities snowballed, boosting demand for work&nbsp;needed to service that debt, which Burdell’s firm provided. The increased demand resulted in the business splitting into two: asset manager LCM Partners and Link Financial,&nbsp;a loan servicing and&nbsp;credit management firm. Together, they form LC Financial Holdings, which is 49% owned by Canada’s Brookfield Asset Management. As chief operating officer, Burdell is heavily involved in the day-to-day running of the firm&nbsp;and sits on the investment committee, helping decide which assets to buy. From its roots in the UK, the company has expanded into Spain and then across Europe. It has also recently made moves into India through a partnership with a local business. LCM operates two strategies: Credit Opportunities and SOLO, which&nbsp;lends to small and medium-sized enterprises. Its investors include some of the world’s largest pension funds. Now, amid the cost-of-living crisis, Burdell expects a busy time ahead for the firm as there will be more consumers who cannot meet credit card and loan repayments. Burdell says she is fortunate as a business founder to have had the flexibility to balance her work with family commitments when her&nbsp;children were younger; they&nbsp;are now grown up. NEW ENTRY - Tania Cruickshank became general counsel at Man Group in July, succeeding Robyn Grew, who was named president. She now reports to CEO Luke Ellis as the firm’s most senior lawyer, stepping up from the post of global head of legal and European general counsel that she had held since 2018. A member of the executive committee, she is responsible for more than 40 in the legal department, which has offices in London, New York, Hong Kong and Switzerland. She advises on every aspect of the global investment management firm’s business. An Exeter University graduate, she practised as a corporate lawyer at Slaughter and May before joining Man Group in 2008, with the bulk of her time now spent raising assets. The legal department has supported an increase in Man Group’s AUM of more than 50% over the past five years, launching hundreds of new funds and managed accounts across its range. She stands out for her deal expertise, having worked on the acquisition of GLG in 2010 and first got to know Ellis on the 2012acquisition of FRM, where he previously worked. More recently, she was closely involved in the 2019 reorganisation and redomiciling of the group under a new holding company based in Jersey. As head of Euronext Paris, Delphine d’Amarzit leads one of the pan-European exchange’s largest markets — it operates in seven European countries — accounting for almost a third of group revenues. Euronext Paris listed 64 companies in 2021, raising almost €4bn. A keen horse rider, d’Amarzit is also a member of Euronext’s executive board. NEW ENTRY - Alexandra Dimitrijevic leads the innovation agenda for S&amp;P Global Ratings, overseeing the research, sustainable finance and analytical innovation teams. The teams produce research and develop new products to help markets assess complex and evolving credit, ESG&nbsp;and emerging risks. In&nbsp;her career at S&amp;P Global Ratings, which has spanned more than 25 years, Dimitrijevic&nbsp;has held a range of senior roles including head of corporate ratings in Emea, where she was responsible for a team of 140 analysts covering more than 1,000 companies, and criteria officer in charge of the methodology for sovereign ratings. She took on her current role in 2021 and chairs the company’s Emea Credit Conditions Committee, a quarterly global risk monitoring exercise that assesses macro and market trends to inform views across the company. In the past year, her team has played a key role in providing market insight on the war in Ukraine, high inflation and monetary policy responses. A&nbsp;passionate believer in equality and inclusion, she co-founded in 2019 the S&amp;P Global Diversity Research Lab, which publishes research on the benefits of greater diversity and social equity on economies, markets and corporations. She also initiated the Women in Research group, gathering female heads of credit research at S&amp;P and other companies to discuss macro and credit trends. Dimitrijevic&nbsp;relocated to the UK while pregnant with her third child and lobbied the firm to increase its maternity leave to six months at full pay from six weeks, although the change came too late to directly&nbsp;benefit her.

NEW ENTRY - As someone who has been working in derivatives for more than 25 years, Emma Dwyer has seen massive changes in the market. Her third daughter was born four days after Lehman Brothers collapsed, so she was on maternity leave during the height of the financial crisis. But she returned to a very different environment. She recalls going back to work in September 2009 and a colleague saying: “We have this project, it’s all about clearing, it’s got to be done by December — will you help me?” Of course, the project wasn’t done in three months, as post-crisis regulations came into play. Dwyer says the regulatory work is now coming to an end, and she is getting back to working on transactions again as the market picks up. Her clients include global investment banks and trade bodies such as the International Swaps and Derivatives Association and the Futures Industry Association. She still does a lot of client work, alongside her responsibilities as head of the London derivatives and structured finance practice, where she oversees 12 partners and 60 fee earners. The rest of her time is spent on firm-wide matters as a member of the executive committee, as well as several other internal groups including the risk and audit committees. As head of $1tn Northern Trust Asset Management’s business in Emea, Marie Dzanis has overseen the growth of the investment firm’s ETF business, which it launched in the region in March last year. It&nbsp;now has five ETFs, four of which are climate-focused, and it has seen strong inflows in its first 12&nbsp;months. Dzanis is a member of NTAM’s executive committee and is on the board of the Investment Association. NEW ENTRY - Teresa Farmaki co-founded Astarte Capital, an asset manager focused on sustainable real assets, in 2015. The firm now has around 20&nbsp;employees, and acts as a strategic investor in emerging managers and thematic investment platforms. When the firm was launched, trying to sell the sustainability side of its remit was a large part of conversations with investors. Now, it has become much more mainstream and accepted. In May, Astarte announced a partnership with Quintana Infrastructure and Development to invest in lower mid-market projects in North America. It has also recently led the launch of a $250m impact forestry fund in South America. Farmaki donates part of the firm’s profits to improving access to education through Beyond Capital, which invests in for-profit social enterprises serving poor communities in India and east Africa. As one of the few female founders in the alternative investment industry, she is committed to improving gender diversity in the industry as part of the 30% Club’s mentoring scheme, and supports the TARA programme, which connects organisations with the next generation of female leaders. NEW ENTRY - After graduating from Milan’s Bocconi University as a “penniless student with big ambitions” in 1996, Fabiana Fedeli was offered a scholarship by the Japanese government to attend Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo. The fact that her Japanese was “close to non-existent” did not stop her. She learned the language, completed a master’s in economics and, having abandoned her intentions of following an academic career, started work as a sellside analyst for Ing Barings in Tokyo. Her career has since taken her to New York (which she considers home), Rotterdam and, most recently, London with M&amp;G as chief investment officer of its £100bn equities and multi-asset division. A large part of her focus will be building the firm’s capabilities in ESG and sustainability, drawing on previous experience with firms such as Robeco, where she was global head of fundamental equities and a portfolio manager before joining M&amp;G in August 2021. The work will include the ongoing project to transition many of its SICAV funds to Article 8 or 9 strategies under the European Union’s Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation. Reporting to M&amp;G’s chief investment officer Jack Daniels, Fedeli is also a non-executive director of M&amp;G South Africa and a member of M&amp;G’s diversity in investments group. Away from M&amp;G, she is a member of the investment committees of both the Investment&nbsp;Association and the Open University. NEW ENTRY - Deborah Finkler stepped up to managing partner at Slaughter and May earlier this year, making her the first woman to hold an executive role at the Magic Circle firm. She is also a member of its board. Her newly-created role came as part of a restructure of the executive function at the firm with senior partner Steve Cooke due to step down in 2024 to be replaced by M&amp;A lawyer Roland Turnill. Finkler’s job combines the functions of the previous practice partner with the strategic elements of the executive partner role. She has responsibility for around 1,500 staff at offices in London, Brussels, Beijing and Hong Kong. A leading UK adviser on banking and commercial litigation and regulatory investigations, Finkler’s clients have included financial services firms such as Standard Chartered, Deutsche Bank and JPMorgan, and advertising and communications company WPP. She brings to her new role 40 years of experience, having started her career in 1981 as a trainee at Herbert Oppenheimer, Nathan &amp; Vandyk. She joined Slaughter and May in 1986 and was made partner in 1991. A theatre lover, Finkler has two grown-up children.

NEW ENTRY - Wells Fargo has big plans to expand its corporate and investment banking business globally and Fiona Gallagher has a critical role to play. She joined in 2019 to lead the bank’s European Union platform across the corporate and investment bank, as well as its commercial capital businesses. Having navigated the bank through Covid, she established its post- Brexit operations. As well as managing the business day-to-day, she is tapping into the client-facing skills she honed at Deutsche Bank, where she worked in debt capital markets before taking several broader leadership roles in global transaction banking. For example, at Wells Fargo, she has worked with a large Irish real estate provider on its first sustainable loan. The role is a homecoming of sorts — although she was born in the UK she grew up in Ireland and graduated from Dublin University before spending her career in London and New York. At Wells Fargo, she oversees 300 people in Dublin and 65 acrossits hubs in Frankfurt and Düsseldorf. In the past 12 months, Gallagher has established new business and product lines and is working on a build out of sales teams across the continent. NEW ENTRY - Lucy Heintz is not only committed to financing the energy transition, she is focused on making sure it is inclusive. With more than 25 years of experience and as head of energy infrastructure at emerging markets investor Actis, she also has the know-how and the means to do so. Actis has been repositioning itself to focus on sustainable infrastructure, although it still has some investments in traditional private equity. The energy infrastructure team comprises around 60&nbsp;professionals. NEW ENTRY - Ingrid Hengster signed up to Barclays to lead its 1,000-strong German banking business in January this year, pitting the UK lender against expansive Wall Street rivals in the country, which has been a key focus for dealmaking talent in the wake of Brexit. Under Hengster’s leadership, Barclays has hired a string of senior dealmakers for its German business in recent months as part of a broader buildout in Europe. It is targeting 6% of investment banking fees in the market — double its current share — and has hired around 20&nbsp;people over the past 18 months. Hengster joined from state-owned bank KfW, where she led its venture capital practice and has more than 30 years of experience in investment banking at UBS, Credit Suisse and ABN Amro, among others. At Barclays, she is also one of eight senior bankers to take the role of global chair of banking, a select group of executives who have responsibility for drumming up new business from its top clients. NEW ENTRY - One of the most senior women at PwC UK, Laura Hinton is tipped by those in the know as a potential future leader of the firm. She was promoted to head the firm’s UK tax practice in January 2022 and she is also chair of PwC Emea’s executive team. She was previously PwC UK’s chief people officer and has been a member of the firm’s executive board for more than five years. She was also head of HR management consulting for the firm. She began her career at BDO in 1994, where she later became a partner, before joining PwC as a partner in 2006. She has since held various senior roles at the accountancy firm. Hinton played a key role in the firm’s Covid-19 response and also helped drive PwC’s adoption of hybrid working following the coronavirus lockdowns. She is a champion of&nbsp;gender and social diversity inside and outside PwC. A keen traveller in her spare time, she sits on the Heart of the City leadership council, which helps small and medium-sized firms work towards making responsible business a meaningful part of their work. NEW ENTRY - One of Lisa Jacobs’ first jobs was cleaning factory floors, aged 10, in Bolton, where her parents owned a small manufacturing business. “I think I got paid with a magazine for that one,” she says. Now, the 37-year-old is one of the youngest CEOs of a FTSE-listed company, having taken the reins at Funding Circle at the start of this year. Nevertheless, her gaze remains firmly on small businesses — founded in 2010, the company is now the UK’s largest dedicated SME loan platform, and has lent about £14bn to 120,000 businesses globally. She left Boston Consulting Group 10 years ago to join Funding Circle. In that time, the fintech firm has come into its own, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic. It was the third largest lender to businesses via the government’s Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme. In March, Funding Circle announced it was permanently closing to retail investors, having paused that business during the pandemic, with all lending now done by institutional investors. Since Jacobs took the top job, she has launched a flexible payments product. “Because my parents were small business owners, I&nbsp;developed a good understanding of the challenges these companies can face,” she says. She has also worked to improve female representation in fintech, having launched the group Fintech Women, which has grown to more than 1,000 members, and started several resource groups at Funding Circle, such as Let’s Talk About Race and Circle of Pride.&nbsp;

Berenberg has been making changes to its European investment bank, the latest of which was its decision to transfer bankers from Frankfurt and other locations to London, where Laura Janssens leads the office, to build a team of dealmakers in the UK. NEW ENTRY - Appointed head of HSBC Asset Management’s newly-created Sustainability Office in July 2021, Erin Leonard is responsible for transitioning all parts of the investment division’s $610bn franchise to sustainable investing. She reports directly to chief executive Nicolas Moreau and is a member of his management committee, as well as HSBC Group’s sustainability leadership team. She has hit the ground&nbsp;running and in the past year, sustainable investment assets — the firm’s highest sustainability standard — have more than&nbsp;tripled from $9bn to $30bn. She’s also overseen the launch of 33 new funds and transformed&nbsp;18 existing funds into sustainable investment strategies. The firm has also sponsored two ESG specialists: Climate Asset Management, an HSBC joint venture that seeks to reinstate natural capital as an asset class; and RadiantESG, an independent, female-owned asset manager with specialist expertise in ESG investing. Leonard holds non-executive director roles in both companies. Before taking the new role, Leonard had already been with HSBC for more than a decade, most recently as its global head of institutional business. She has&nbsp;previously held positions with Neuberger Berman&nbsp;Europe, Lehman Brothers Asset&nbsp;Management and Aegon Asset Management, among others. She is non-executive chair of the UK Hydrographic Office, which works with the government to help protect the world’s oceans. She is global relationship partner for US-headquartered activist investor Elliott Advisors. NEW ENTRY - As head of private debt activity at Tikehau Capital Cécile Mayer-Lévi oversees a global team of 30 people and €12.4bn in assets — up 33% year-on-year and accounting for more than a third of the firm’s total assets. Last year, Tikehau was the most active lender in Europe, completing 67 deals. The group also had a record year for collateralised loan obligations, totalling €1.5bn across four transactions. Since joining the alternatives firm in 2013, Mayer-Lévi has focused on integrating ESG criteria into the private debt franchise. The firm launched an impact lending strategy, with a target size of €350m-€400m, that had its first close in February 2021. She has also introduced ESG ratchets in unitranche financing on Tikehau’s direct lending funds. To date, Mayer-Lévi has arranged more than 150 financing transactions. In addition to sitting on the board of more than 20&nbsp;companies and Tikehau’s management team, she is the chair of the private debt commission of trade association France Invest and a board member of the Alternative Credit Council. She started her career at Merrill Lynch in Paris and New York, then joined one of the very first leveraged buyout funds in France, Elig. NEW ENTRY - Francesca McDonagh has already been a prime beneficiary of Credit Suisse’s executive upheaval under new CEO Ulrich Körner. Originally hired by former chief Thomas Gottstein to run the bank’s operations in Emea, McDonagh, who joined in September, was bumped up to the role of group chief operating officer before she had formally taken on her original post. She has just finished a five-year stint as group CEO at Bank of Ireland, where as the first woman to lead the bank she overhauled its culture, boosted capital and prepared the lender for a return to private ownership after being bailed out by the Irish government. Her skills will be much in demand as she joins Credit Suisse’s executive board with responsibility to support Körner in steering the group through a strategic transformation. Born in south London, the state-educated 47-year old showed her determination when she won a place at the University of Oxford, despite being initially turned down by three colleges. She began her career as a graduate in HSBC’s investment banking division. She joined Credit Suisse as the bank finds itself in the eye of the storm. The bank’s shares have fallen 55% this year and Körner is under pressure to convince investors he can turn the bank around when he announces a new strategy on 27 October. McDonagh’s cost-cutting and operational skills will be much in demand.

Since joining HSBC last year, Lisa McGeough has led the European global banking team to secure positions on deals for several large companies. It was the exclusive broker for the first tranche of Unilever’s €3bn share buyback programme, worked as bookrunner on L’Oréal ’s €3bn multi-tranche bond issue, and was appointed as corporate broker for easyJet. She also introduced a programme called Lions’ Den, inspired by Dragons’ Den, to drive collaboration and entrepreneurialism. Pozezanac has worked in financial services for more than three decades, including senior roles in the US and Canada, and across retirement, investment consulting and insurance. Pozezanac spent three years at Mercer, where she oversaw the UK integration of JLT Employee Benefits, which Mercer’s parent company Marsh &amp; McLennan acquired in 2019. Prior to that, she worked at Prudential Financial in the US, most recently as senior managing director for client management, leading the company’s C-suite global financial partner and key client engagement programme. The longest stint of her career was at insurance adviser Willis Towers Watson, where she spent 26 years. During her time at the firm, Pozezanac held several leadership roles spanning its retirement and risk businesses in the US and Canada. This included leading Towers Perrin’s pension derisking business, as well as the sales and marketing for its retirement division in North America, following the merger of Towers Perrin and Watson Wyatt in 2010.

Zara Pratley is responsible for relationships with Tradeweb’s buyside clients and for managing the European sales functions across fixed income, derivatives, money markets, equities and data products. She also runs client services and operations in Europe. As a result of Brexit and the pandemic, many members of her team have had to relocate across Europe, which has given Tradeweb the chance to forge closer client relationships in those locations. Ann Prenderfast oversees a $317bn assets-undermanagement business at State Street Global Advisors and more than 260 employees. She recently became a member of the firm’s executive management group, helping to steer its corporate strategy globally. She is also the chair of its Emea people forum, which provides regional oversight of diversity and inclusion, staff training and development, and employee engagement. When Russia invaded Ukraine earlier this year, she assembled a team to support their Polish colleagues who are involved in front-line humanitarian efforts. NEW ENTRY - Brigid Rentoul’s mandate is to oversee weighty legal and compliance matters at one of the UK’s best-known hedge funds — it’s one she is suitably cut out for, given she has more than 30 years’ legal experience under her belt. She also has a broader purview of the hedge fund’s business strategy, as a member of Winton Capital’s executive management committee and its group board. Rentoul began her career at Davis Polk &amp; Wardwell in New York and then spent two decades at Linklaters in London, becoming a partner in 1997. She switched from private practice to her in-house role in 2012. She describes the move as a challenge, going from a very transactional practice — she did a lot of equity capital markets work — to a more advisory role, but she relishes the variety of her job. It is a banner year for the hedge fund, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary and marking 10 years since it entered China. The firm has been rebuilding following a bruising during the pandemic. Rentoul admits it was wrongly positioned heading into it, but says it has come out strongly and is hiring senior talent to investment teams and bringing new clients on board. There are other changes afoot, too. In the second quarter of 2023, Winton is set to move to new premises in Knightsbridge from its current offices in Hammersmith, west London, where&nbsp;it has been based since 2014. A mother of two grown-up daughters, Rentoul enjoys running in her spare time. She also has a passion for art — she embarked on an online arts foundation course during the pandemic, which she completed earlier this year. Under Dame Anne Richards’ leadership, Fidelity International has embarked on a hiring spree for its digital assets business this year, as it looks to cash in on institutional demand for cryptocurrencies. It plans to hire 110 tech professionals to build its digital infrastructure. It is also building up its private markets headcount after setting up a new division last year. Dame Anne has led the fund manager since the end of 2018. She is passionate about diversity and has introduced several new initiatives at the company. Alison Rose oversaw a strong first half of the year for UK lender NatWest, with pre-tax operating profits growing 12.7% to £2.83bn. Rose took over leadership of the bank three years ago, having started her career there in 1992 as a graduate trainee. Arguably Europe’s most senior financial regulator, Verena Ross oversees the European Securities and Markets Authority, a role she took over last November. This year, one of the watchdog’s biggest tasks has been responding to the war in Ukraine and its impact on markets. The regulator has also been warning of a green assets bubble and the potential risks of cryptocurrencies. The German national has a long track record in financial policymaking, having worked at the Bank of England as an economist and then a supervisor, and at the Financial Services Authority. Virginie Saade has recently taken on an expanded role covering the broader Emea region, having previously only covered Europe. Her responsibilities span both hedge fund Citadel and crossasset class market-maker Citadel Securities. Under Michelle Scrimgeour’s leadership, Legal &amp; General Investment Management saw record net external flows of £65.6bn in the first half of the year, though assets fell slightly to just under £1.3tn as a result of market movements. One of its focuses has been pushing companies to improve diversity — in 2021, it voted against 370 director appointments that failed to meet its expectations. As president of ICE Clear Europe, Hester Serafini runs one of the world’s largest clearing houses, dealing with multi-currency futures and options across energy, environmentals, interest rates, equity derivatives and soft commodities. As a clearer for energy benchmarks, it has been a particularly busy time for the firm since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine — coupled with inflation concerns and interest rate hikes, this has had an impact on prices, with the price of TTF natural gas (the European gas benchmark) futures increasing 1,061% in the year to August. NEW ENTRY - Emily Shepperd moved to the Financial Conduct Authority in early 2021 as COO and executive director of authorisations, making her one of the most senior employees at the financial markets regulator. She also serves on the FCA’s executive committee. Shepperd spent nearly 15&nbsp;years at BNY Mellon, latterly as COO for Emea, then two as Aegon’s customer services director. She did a stint at JPMorgan and worked at Pershing through its acquisition by BNY Mellon. She is a former co-chair of the technology and operations group at the Association for Financial Markets in Europe. Rebecca Short is a Deutsche Bank lifer, joining its graduate programme in Auckland, New Zealand, in 1998. She moved to London two years later and has worked her way up the ranks. She took on her current role in May 2021, with responsibility for leading the transformation plan that Christian Sewing put into place when he took over as CEO in 2018. With more than 30 years’ experience under her belt, Caroline Silver is well-known in banking and beyond. Anna Skoglund oversees the financial and strategic investor group for Goldman Sachs in Emea. The business unit provides investment banking services for institutions such as private equity firms, pension funds and sovereign wealth funds. Recent buyout deals that Goldman has worked on include advising on the sale of Italian pharmaceutical manufacturer Neopharmed Gentili by Ardian, which has reportedly attracted five bidders, and working with UK-listed HomeServe on its sale to Brookfield Asset Management. NEW ENTRY - As Emea head of iShares and index investments at BlackRock, Jane Sloan oversees the fund manager’s largest business in the region, with around $1.2tn in assets under management and a 400-strong team. She was appointed to the role in April 2021, and is responsible for overseeing the next phase of indexing growth in the region, as well as expanding the adoption of iShares’ Ucits exchange traded fund range globally through partnerships with clients and country teams worldwide. Sloan joined BlackRock in 2015, having previously held various roles at Arrowgrass Capital Partners, Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank and Bankers Trust. She has presided over one of iShares’ strongest financial years in Emea, with the firm launching more ETF products in the past 12 months than any other provider. She has also made several changes to her team, adding hires within sales and consultation units to reflect the changes in European wealth markets. She has also built out iShares’ product strategist functions. Sloan has also increased the number of digital partnerships, giving distributors in key markets the ability to offer ETFs in distribution formats that work for their clients. She is also a diversity champion within BlackRock, working with women at different stages of their careers as they look to reach senior roles in investments and technology. As part of this work, Sloan has partnered with senior leadership at the firm to flush out ideas from employees about how to further foster an environment in which women can build a successful career. Last year marked Hanneke Smits’ first full calendar year in charge of BNY Mellon Investment Management, having taken over the role in October 2020. She led the firm to 10% growth in assets under management during the 12-month period, to hit $2.4tn. That total is spread across eight specialist managers, including Newton Investment Management, which Smits previously headed. NEW ENTRY - Nishi Somaiya joined Goldman Sachs as an intern straight out of university. Starting as an analyst in the leveraged finance team in London, she moved to the distressed debt trading desk in 2002. She was made a managing director in 2011 and a partner in 2016. Until 2019, she ran the private capital business within its European Special Situations Group, of which she was a founding member, where she focused on middle market lending and growth equity. Today, she is one of three co-heads of the growth equity business within the asset management division, managing a team of 80 across Europe, the US and Asia. With around $10bn invested in 200 firms, it takes minority stakes in fast-growing “disruptive” businesses, mostly in technology and software across four areas: enterprise software, fintech, consumer tech and healthcare. Recent investments include: 4G Clinical, the only fully cloud-based randomisation and trial supply management software for the healthcare sector; Transmit Security, which provides password-less identity management software; and Newfront, a tech-enabled insurance brokerage. Last year, the division raised $3bn for its first client fund. Somaiya also serves on Goldman’s Global Diversity Committee, Emea Inclusion and Diversity Committee, and Sustainable Investing Group. Outside work, she is a board governor for the Royal Ballet School and is on the board of SEO London, a charity that provides training and mentoring for young people from under-represented communities. Claire Suddens-Spiers took on her role a year ago, leading a team of 50 bankers. Since then, she has worked on various deals, including the €5.6bn IPO of logistics firm CTP in Amsterdam and SSA Investments’ £234m selldown of a 4% stake in B&amp;M European Value Retail. SuddensSpiers joined Rothschild 26 years ago and spent a decade in Hong Kong, helping to build its Asian equity advisory business before returning to London in 2019. NEW ENTRY - After just four years working in the London office of Latham &amp; Watkins, Yen Sum was this year asked by the firm’s chair to take on leadership of its new global private capital practice alongside another senior partner. Previously a partner at Linklaters and Sidley Austin, Sum joined Latham in 2018, where she specialises in direct lending and private debt, as well as restructuring and special situations. Her new role sees her spearhead one of the firm’s key strategic priorities, leading the development of a multi-jurisdictional and multi-disciplinary initiative to support private capital clients across all asset classes. The private capital practice will ultimately involve most of the firm’s lawyers, across corporate, finance and litigation: “Many of the most active and high-growth players in the market are existing clients of the firm,” says Sum. “And we see significant long-term growth opportunities for our corporate, finance, and litigation practices in this constantly evolving market.” Sum, who grew up and began her legal career in Australia, spent three years in Barclays Capital’s leveraged finance team before becoming a partner at Linklaters. In the past 12 months, Sum has represented clients including Blackstone, Bain, Barings, Alcentra and GIC on a series of private credit, direct lending, structured lending, refinancings and minority equity investments. She has also continued to advise aviation services company Swissport and retailer New Look on their corporate turnarounds, having worked with both on their restructurings in 2020.&nbsp;
